Questioning Chemotherapy, A Critique of Toxic Drugs in the Treatment of Cancer
Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D.- "I started as a believer in chemotherapy. As a science
writer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, I wrote articles praising the latest advances
in chemotherapy. Because chemotherapy drugs were general cellular poisons, they could be terribly toxic.

The 2010 documentary Cut, Poison, Burn provides revealing insight into the medical
monopoly of cancer treatment, as a four year old boy who was diagnosed with brain
cancer was compelled to undergo a system of chemo, surgery and radiation, against
his parents wishes. He was not allowed access to a proven method of alternative
treatment.
The medical systems response was callous. The authorities threatened
to take the boy into custody and charged his parents with child abuse if the medical
option was not opted for. The boys death certificate states his cause of death as:
respiratory failure due to chronic toxicity of chemotherapy.
William Campbell Douglass II, MD - "To understand the utter hypocrisy
of chemotherapy, consider the following: The McGill Cancer Center in Canada, one of the largest and
most prestigious cancer treatment centers in the world, did a study of
oncologists to determine how they would respond to a diagnosis of cancer. On the confidential questionnaire, 58 out of 64 doctors
said that all chemotherapy programs were unacceptable to them and their family members.
The overriding reason for this decision
was that the drugs are ineffective and have an unacceptable degree of toxicity. These are the same doctors who will tell you that
their chemotherapy treatments will shrink your tumor and prolong your life! Thirty years ago, I worked with a
radiologist who told me this: "If I get cancer, I'm going to Mexico." So if you get cancer, don't call your doctor; call your travel agent.
There are alternative treatments available, but you will have to run the gamut of outraged chemotherapists,
radiologists, and surgeons to find one. They will use cajolery, insults, fear, threats
("If you do this, I am off the case"), and misrepresentation to dissuade you."
In one survey, most oncologists specializing in lung cancer reported that they would not take chemotherapy
if they had the disease. Yet, everyday these doctors give their patients chemotherapy. In conversation with an investigative reporter,
one brain cancer specialist admitted that he would never submit to radiation if
he had a brain tumor. Nevertheless, he continues to send patients for radiation,
because he would be kicked out of the hospital if he didn't follow the accepted
protocol.
Dr. John Gofman, M.D., Ph.D. – a nuclear physicist and a medical doctor,
and one of the leading experts in the world on the dangers of radiation – presents compelling
evidence in his book, Radiation from Medical Procedures in the Pathogenesis of Cancer and
Ischemic Heart Disease that over 50 percent of the death-rate from cancer is in fact induced by x-rays. Medical radiation is a
highly important cause (probably the principal cause) of cancer mortality in the United States during the Twentieth Century.
The second is that medical radiation, received even at very low and moderate doses, is an important
cause of death from Ischemic Heart Disease;
the probable mechanism is radiation-induction of mutations in the coronary arteries, resulting in
dysfunctional clones (mini-tumors) of smooth muscle cells.
The Immune Response: The Body's Natural Defense
The Cancer Research Institute was founded in 1953 to foster the science of cancer
immunology, which is based on the premise that the body's immune system can be mobilized
against cancer. This field, which CRI helped pioneer and develop, has been recognized
throughout the world as offering great hope for the ultimate prevention and treatment
of human cancer. The immune response is the body's way of defending itself against
foreign substances that invade it to cause infection or disease. The immune system's
job is a complicated process that involves the coordinated efforts of several types
of white blood cells.
According to Dr. George C Pack, MD, a cancer specialist at Cornell medical School,
almost everyone has cancer cells present at times in our bodies. If our immune system is working properly,
these cells are killed or reabsorbed by our defense system before they begin to grow and
threaten our health.

The Prime Cause of Cancer is Not Genetic
In 2006, the heads of the world's largest cancer research center in Houston,
Texas, announced that cancer's prime cause isn't genetic: "'If it could have happened
[solving cancer with genetics], it would have already happened with genetic mutations,'
said William Brinkley, a senior vice-president at Baylor who says other research
should take precedence over the cancer genome project.
Dr John Mendelsohn [president
of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center] states, 'Any claims that this [genetic research]
is going to be the key to curing cancer are not appropriate.'" Thus, the prime cause
of cancer is not a genetic mutation. Even if cancer "runs in your family", there
is real hope. Unfortunately, the geneticists have it backwards, attempting to force
the facts to fit their genetics-based theories when they don't fit the facts, because,
as Professor Harris demonstrated many years ago, cancer isn't genetically dominant.
Where does this leave us? Where can we look for solutions? What about the popular
nutritional solutions to fighting cancer?

In 1969, Professor Henry Harris of Oxford University shook the cancer research community
to its core when he proved these previous theories wrong. Professor Harris took
normal tissue cells and fused three types of cancer cells to them. Surely, he thought,
the cancer cells would take over the normal cells and "convert" them into cancer.
Surprisingly, they grew normally.
Contrary to popular opinion, cancer takes several decades to develop in humans.
Given this long incubation period, science can show us the way to destroy any initial
pre-cancerous cells and keep the cancerous ones from causing widespread damage. If
you think cancer has a genetic basis, then think again.
Dr Robert A. Weinberg of
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's leading cancer researchers
and discoverer of the so-called oncogene (cancer-causing gene), reversed his previous
conclusions after discovering that "fewer than one DNA base in a million appears
to have been mis-copied". It's not enough of a defect! His exact words: "Something
was very wrong. The notion that a cancer developed through the successive activation
of a series of oncogenes had lost its link to reality." He called the genetic discoveries
made thus far "sterile". The prime cause of cancer is therefore not genetic. This
was announced in 1998. Did you hear about it? Probably not.
Cancer is Big Business
Cancer is big business. Despite massive public screening campaigns and
talk of cures, cancer rates continue to soar, and certain companies not only
profit from making the chemicals that cause cancer, but also from selling the drugs that treat it.
In 2015, there will be an estimated 1,658,370 new cancer cases diagnosed and 589,430 cancer deaths in the US.

cancer and more people are dying year after year.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer which is part of the World Health Organization
lists nine chemotherapy drugs and two "combinational therapies" as known human
carcinogens. Another nine drugs are listed as "probable" and 10 as "possible" carcinogens.
Chemotherapy -- the use of potent drugs to kill cancerous cells -- is more than
60 years old.
The first such drugs were nitrogen mustards, originally developed
as chemical warfare agents. Modern chemotherapy drugs are so strong, by necessity,
that they can cause secondary cancers in patients to a healthy person, they're poison.
For decades, experts say, most health care workers were oblivious to the
risks posed to them by these and other drugs, which attack good cells as well as
bad. By the 1970s, The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
says in its alert, "the carcinogenicity of several chemotherapy drugs in animals
was well established. Likewise, a number of researchers during this period linked
the therapeutic use of certain drugs in humans to subsequent leukemia and other cancers.
Many in health care began to question whether occupational exposure to
these agents was hazardous." Last March, the federal government issued an unusually
detailed alert to the nation's 5.5 million health care workers: The powerful drugs
used in chemotherapy can themselves cause cancer and pose a risk to nurses, pharmacists
and others who handle them. A housekeeper who dumps the contents of a bedpan into
a toilet might not realize that the waste is toxic. "Sometimes, 80 percent of the
active ingredient [in a drug] goes right through the patient's system," said Borwegen,
who also served on the NIOSH work group.

The bitter melon plant has been used in China as a treatment for diabetes,
tumors, and immune disorders. In Asia and in the
U.S., there has been community interest in the use of the plant as an alternative
therapy for AIDS.
Extracts from the whole fruit have been shown to have anti-cancer
properties in mice. The authors of this study suggest that the anti-cancer properties
may be due in part to an enhancement of immune function induced by the bitter melon.
Another study has shown that bitter melon extracts suppressed lymphocyte proliferation
and macrophage and lymphocyte activity in mice.
This leafy plant bears fruit which looks like a bumpy cucumber.
The fruit, seeds, leaves, flowers, stems, and roots of this plant have been used in Chinese medicine
for treating gastrointestinal infections, as an appetite stimulant, to decrease blood sugar in diabetics, and to induce
abortion in mid-term pregnancy.
Glutathione in the Fight Against Cancer
Glutathione is of major significance in cellular antioxidant activity in what Meister called the "GSH antioxidant system" because
it participates directly in the destruction of reactive oxygen compounds and also
because it maintains in reduced form adsorbate (vitamin C) and a-tocopherol (vitamin
E), which also exerts a. antioxidant effect

is scarce about the relationship between cancer and magnesium but researchers from
the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota have just concluded that
diets rich in magnesium reduced the occurrence of colon cancer.
A previous study from Sweden
reported that women with the highest magnesium intake had a 40 per
cent lower risk of developing the cancer than those with the
lowest intake of the mineral. Preliminary data also suggests a relationship between
low intake of magnesium and kidney cancer. The School of Public Health at the Kaohsiung
Medical College in, Taiwan, found that magnesium also exerts a protective effect
against gastric cancer.
Cancer-Prevention and Cure with Omega-3 Fats

Fish oil supplementation for Cancer Patients
Chemotherapy and other conventional medical treatments have proven ineffective
in improving quality of life and survival of patients with end stage cancer. Now Greek medical researchers report that
fish oil supplementation markedly increases
the survival time for cancer patients with generalized malignancy. Their study involved
60 patients with generalized solid tumors. The patients were divided into two groups
with one group receiving 18 grams/day of fish oil (six capsules of MAXEPA three
times daily containing 170 mg eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and 115 mg docosahexaenoic
acid [DHA] per capsule) and the other group receiving a placebo. The fish oil group
also received 200 mg of vitamin E daily to compensate for the oxidative effect of
the fish oil. Each group included 15 well-nourished and 15 malnourished patients.
None of the well-nourished patients suffered from cancer cachexia (abnormally low
weight and general weakness).
The researchers measured the level of T cells, natural
killer cells, and the synthesis of interleukin and tumor necrosis factor before
the start of the supplementation and on day 40 of the trial. The study followed
all patients until they died. Malnourished patients were found to have a considerably
impaired immune function and a decreased production of tumor necrosis factor both
parameters were restored through fish oil supplementation.
Marine Phytoplankton: Tumor and Cancer
Marine phytoplankton has been called "the most
nutritionally dense foods on the planet". Patients receiving a cancer drug together
with phytoplankton exhibited response rates up to 250 percent better that those
obtained by the drug alone. These advanced cancer patients experienced regressions
of malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer,

Marine PhytoPlankton could prevent skin cancer
- Scientists from Heinrich Heine University in Germany and TNO Nutrition and Food
Research Institute in the Netherlands have reported their findings in the latest
edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
Pancreatic Cancer and Enzymes
A study, published in the journal Pancreas, found that mice treated with pancreatic
enzymes survived significantly longer than those that did not. Tumor growth in the
enzyme-treated group was also significantly slower. Five years ago, a pilot study
of human cancer patients by one of the study authors, Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D.,
was published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer. Gonzalez later received a $1.4
million federal grant for a Phase III prospective clinical trial involving enzymes
for pancreatic cancer. This multi-year study is ongoing.
According to Dr. William Donald Kelley, D.D.S., M.S. in his book, "Cancer: Curing the Incurable,"
at least 86% of all cancer conditions could be adequately
treated and/or prevented by diet and pancreatic enzymes. He further
states that cancer is a symptom of inadequate and deficient protein metabolism.
Early in the 20th century, Dr. John Beard of the University of Edinburgh, discovered
that the bodys primary mechanism for destroying cancer is contained in pancreatin,
a secretion from the pancreas that, among other things, includes enzymes for digesting
protein. Enzymes digest or liquefy foods for absorption by the body.
The use of large doses of pancreatic enzymes
containing Pancreatin, Trypsin, Chymotripsin, Papain,
and Bromelain is undergoing a 5-year phase III clinical trial in the USA.
This is called Gonzalez Regimen, after Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, MD, of New York [who
based his work on the research of John Beard and William Donald Kelley, see further

of USA. The funding decision was based on the results of a 1993 pilot study in which
patients lived an average seventeen (17) and a half (1/2) months – nearly triple
of what is expected for most patients with advanced pancreatic cancer.

The United States is in the midst of a of skin cancer epidemic, according to
a report in from the Mayo Clinic.
The report goes on to state, One in five Americans will develop skin cancer, and
a person's risk of the disease doubles if that person has had five or more sunburns,
according to the Mayo statistics. Basal and squamous cell carcinomas, the most common
and treatable types of skin cancers, had long been considered a problem only for
people over 50, according to the report. But Mayo researchers report that percentage
of women under 40 with the more common type, basal cell, tripled between 1976 and
2003, while the rate of squamous cell cancers increased 400 percent.
The standard procedure for skin cancer treatment in US hospitals is surgery,
chemotherapy, and even radiation, with no significant cure rate! While there are

For over three decades, Harry Hoxsey (1901-1974), a self-taught healer, cured
many cancer patients using an herbal remedy reportedly
handed down by his great-grandfather. By the 1950s, the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Dallas
was the world's largest private cancer center, with branches in seventeen states.
Born in Illinois, the charismatic practitioner of herbal folk medicine faced unrelenting
opposition and harassment from a hostile medical establishment. Nevertheless, two
federal courts upheld the "therapeutic value" of Hoxsey's internal tonic.
Even his archenemies, the American Medical Association and the Food and Drug Administration,
admitted that his treatment could cure some forms of cancer. A Dallas judge ruled
in federal court that Hoxsey's therapy was "comparable to surgery, radium, and x-ray"
in its effectiveness, without the destructive side effects of those treatments.
But in the 1950s, at the tail end of the McCarthy era, Hoxsey's clinics were shut
down. The AMA, NCI, and FDA organized a "conspiracy" to "suppress" a fair, unbiased
assessment of Hoxsey's methods, according to a 1953 federal report to Congress. Hoxsey's
Dallas clinic closed its doors in 1960, and three years later, at Hoxsey's request,
Mildred Nelson, R.N., his long-time chief nurse, moved the operation to Tijuana, Mexico.
