Zodiac Flea treatment killed my cat

I just want to let people know that i used Zodiac Flea treatment 3 days
ago and found my cat dead in my 7 year olds bed this morning. Our cat was
perfectly healthy 4 days ago and this morning she was foaming blood
out of her nose and died in a puddle of her own urine. I know it was this
product because I have another cat which I was unable to 'catch'
therefore he did not get the treatment and so he remains perfectly healthy.

I shampooed my dog with Zodiac Flea and Tick Shampoo on sunday the
20th. The dog seems to be fine but I have extreme pain
in the hand I used to rub the shampoo in. It took me
a few days to realize what had happened. The pain starts in my fingers
and goes all the way to my shoulder. Unless you like pain or want
to kill your pet, DO NOT USE THIS SHAMPOO!

BIO-SPOT MADE MY CAT VERY ILL. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT

We gave Bio-Spot to him 9 days ago and he is still sick. This
product has synthetic pyrethrins in it which are very toxic to cats.
Not all cats will get sick from it but too many have!! I have been
watching my normally very active and happy 3 year old cat be extremely
lethargic now for 9 days, he can barely walk. It started the night
we gave him the Bio-Spot. He had a very high fever by the next day
and was tremoring. Has has been to the vet twice and spent a night
in the ER. He is still very lethargic and still having trouble walking.
Thank god he is improving and it looks like he will be okay. But
no one should go through this. So many people have lost their pets
already to this product and others like it. The EPA needs to be alerted
by everyone who has had a pet get sick from this stuff so it gets taken
off of the market. Alert

ALERT: "bio Spot for Cats" killed our beloved house cat, Whiskers.
While shopping at PETCO I decided to try a product called BIO Spot for
Cats. I also purchased Front Line for my Golden Retriever.
I applied the Bio Spot to my cat and I didn't notice any adverse reactions
until three days later she was not quite herself and went into hiding.
My son looked for her that evening and found her way back in his closet.
She was not moving at all. Soon after finding her she went into seizures.
Horrified I thought if could possibly be the Bio Spot and I was about to
put her in the tub and wash her off, but she died before I could bath her.
I have since found out Bio Spot uses a diluted ingredient - permethrin,
which is toxic to cats. I contacted the manufacturer and made a report
with Farnam Products and the EPA.

Subject: Zodiac flea/troll drops killed our cats
From: Andrei andreikraev@yahoo.ca
We have just lost 2 cats because of Zodiac flea trol drops. They died
one after another , 2 healthy pets, we used this Zodiac drops for about
2 moths as instructed on the package. The vet said it went through the
skin and damaged the lever. We will e-mail the company as well. Can you
please advise if there is any way we can add our testimony to some sort
of petishen to stop making this drog, and let more pets owner know
about the real danger.
The Wellmark International Inc doesn't want to take responsibility,
and never admit that Zodiac Flea troll (drops) could be dangerous. After
3 weeks of ignoring our e-mails we send a letter to the company with the
package of Zodiac Flea troll. Wellmark International Inc. responded to
us with the letter from DVM Jordan Siegal (head of consumer relation department)that
the symptoms are very similar to other diseases and Zodiac flea troll has
nothing to do with the death of our cats. Our cats were never exposed to
any other chemicals and the letter contain a lot of scientific stuff no
one can make sense of any way. They even didn't bother to offer a refund
to "unsatisfied customers" even though it was not about money from our
part. In order to prove our case to them we have to dig out our cats from
the backyard and do the autopsy, and than what? Hire a lawyer to fight
Wellmark International Inc. They will get away with it any way, this is
multi billion dollars industry. They have all the bases covered.
We have wrote letters anywhere we could - NPIC, Veterinarian Collage, Humane
Society and private web sites to make people aware of the danger of Zodiac
products.
Health
Hazards from Chemical Flea and Tick Products
Each year, Americans purchase and apply to their pets a vast array of toxic
chemicals intended to kill fleas and ticks. These include collars, sprays,
dusts and more. Other pet owners take their pets to veterinarians to be
dipped in chemicals. Many consumers probably assume that the products they
and their vets use have been subjected to rigorous testing, and must, by
virtue of their very ubiquity, be safe. After all, how could the government
let
deadly poisons be sold on grocery store shelves without applying stringent
standards? Spot-On Pesticides such as Frontline, Zodiac,

The word "holistic" means "whole". In providing holistic care, the therapist
addresses your animal not only from the point of view of its disease, but
also considers what may have
caused the condition. There
are many levels to look at: the animal's lifestyle, the food it eats, the
medication it receives, the emotions it undergoes and the environmental
factors; these may all have a relationship with the

Vaccine Reaction
by Sue and Zoe Lewsley
September 2002
We would like to inform you of the recent experience we have had with
our six year old Dobermann dog following his Booster. Tommy was in excellent
condition and was a Champion showdog who was Top Dobermann in the UK 2000.
In May 2002 we took Tommy to the Vet for blood tests to see whether he
needed his Booster and the Vet advised we should give the Leptospirosis
vaccine as this was safe and would definitely be needed. On his return
home, Tommy was very quiet and went and lay upstairs on his own. When we
tried to get him to come downstairs, he had problems getting up off the
bed and was unco-ordinated. He then tried to get on the bed in the other
bedroom and when we tried to help him, he fell back screaming in pain and
could not move.
We immediately took him to the vets who kept him in for the day on a
drip saying he had inflammation of his entire body and this was a known
reaction to the vaccine. He seemed much better by the evening so they said
we could bring him home but he deteriorated again, collapsed on his back
end, wedged under the furniture and was screaming in pain. We rang the
emergency vets who said to rest him and give him metacam. We sat with Tommy
throughout the night and we got the vet out first thing Saturday (the next
morning) and he was given morphine and carried out in a blanket to be returned
to the vets.
Over the next few days a myleogram was done and the pictures sent to
a specialist and surgery was performed on the following Tuesday. One of
Tommy's discs in the pelvic region had completely blown apart and there
was massive haemorraging. The surgeon said he had never seen anything like
it. Over the weeks and with physiotherapy, accupuncture and swimming Tommy
had improved and was standing and sitting and seemed to be making a slow
but constant recovery. Tommy stayed at a specialist vets in Fleet, where
he was swum every day and the treatment could not have been better. We
then started to bring him home weekends and had him home for the last week
with his daughter Leila, taking him back for swims every day. Throughout
this time, Tommy was always in high spirits and was getting up onto his
feet and attempting to move.
Unfortunately, over the last week, he started to deteriorate and was
becoming less able to get around. We arranged for a consult with the surgeon
on 1st August (unfortunately his 7th Birthday) and it became apparent after
various tests that his nerve damage on the left side was too extensive
and he would never be able to progress any further. We then had to make
the terrible decision to let him go and not prolong the situation. Tommy
had been a wonderful patient endearing himself to all who met him and his
willpower had been phenomenal. He will be sadly missed. The vets have reported
the reaction to the Veterinary Drug Board who are looking into the matter,
which we hope will stop another animal having to go through the same trauma.
We hope this information will hope with your fight and should you require
any further information, pleae do not hesitate to contact us.

Subject: Losing pups to vaccines

From: "Gitta Vaughn" <gittavaughn@earthlink.net
I just want to take a moment to congratulate you to your newsletter.
I think it is a great way of reminding people like me to go visit your
site more often, a great way to let us know what is going on.
The vaccination story hit home. Two weeks ago we euthanized two beautiful,
healthy German Shepherd pups. After discussion vaccination pros and cons
with two holistic vets we decided on an alternate schedule of parvo and
distemper and delayed the first parvo shot until they were 9 weeks old.
After the second distemper shot two pups developed high fever within 12
and 24 hours and suffered from failing health for two weeks with a variety
of symptoms like diarrhea, lack of appetite, depression, weight loss.
It all culminated in cluster seizures and after the most horrifying 24
hours of our lives we had both pups euthanized. Of course the vaccine manufacturer
denies any connection with the vaccine. The third pup
got sick as well but not as severe and recovered.
The pups did receive the homeopathic remedy,
Thuja, immediately after each vaccination. We have tried Distempervinum
for the two pups we lost, but it was too late, however I believe it saved
the third one. We gave a dose of 200C twice daily for 5 days. Her symptoms
remained mild and as far as we can tell now there are no neurological or
other damages. Ironically we didn't use combo vaccines to prevent just
that.
Even though we don't have children, it is not too hard to imagine the
horrible pain a parent must go through to lose a healthy, happy child because
of a mandatory vaccine.
Keep us all informed about the things we need to know.
Thank you for all your hard work that goes into your site and your

Your website is wonderful! I have two Birman cats, the older of which
is 17 with chronic renal disease (but, so far, doing well with daily subcutaneous
Ringer's Solution and a daily mixture of oil, Transfer
Factor and acidophilus). The 5 year old has never been vaccinated (you
can imagine the struggles I've had with my non-holistic vet over this!)
The 17 year old's brother died at age 11 of cancer, caused, I am convinced,
by vaccines. Do you know of any Birman holistic breeders?
My friend, who is a biochemist and international lecturer on fatty acid
metabolism, lost her Birman (he was also vaccinated) and we both would
like to get non-vaccinated Birmans. Thanks for your devotion and hard work!
You are doing a wonderful service for people and pets and I have and will

My pug, MuShu, almost died twice from routine vaccinations.
MuShu had always been vaccinated and given her booster shots since she
was 8 weeks old. I had done everything my vet had told me to do. After
all, I love my dog and wanted her to have a healthy happy life. When MuShu
was 5 yrs. old, I took her in for her routine vaccines. I live about 5
min. from my vet clinic and by the time I got home with her and got into
the house, she was scratching herself like crazy. Even draging her tummy
across the floor and rolling all around. When I looked at her closer, I
saw she had developed hives all over. She then got up to come to me and
could not walk in a straight line. She vomited and fell over and could
not get up. I grabed my keys and MuShu and threw her into the car. We practically
flew back to the Vet clinic.
I ran into the office and yelled "my dog is dying!". The vet tech came
out and grabbed her from my arms and went into the back with her. I was
hot on her heels as I was not going to let her out of my sight. The Dr.
came in and administered some benadryl and told me to stay with her and
watch her. They came in and checked on her every 5 min. or so. After about
1 hour. it seemed the crisis was over and she was becoming her old self
again. I asked the Dr. what on earth had happened and he said she had a
reaction to the vaccine she was given.
When I asked him if it would ever happen again, he said probably not.
Little did I know. About 6 mos. later, it was time for MuShu to have her
Rabies vaccine. This is required by law and I thought I had to comply.
I reminded the Vet about her reaction to the last shots and her told me
that there was no way she would have the same reaction because it was a
different shot and carrier in the shot. With his reassurance, I got MuShu
the shot.
She seemed fine at first but after about an hour later, I saw the hives
and the itching starting all over again. This time the Vet came over to
my house and gave her some benadryl and stayed to watch her recovery. I
have since learned that, armed with a letter from my vet. I no longer have
to get her any vaccines as she is exempt due to severe reactions. I will
never get her another vaccine again. I keep her healthy and strong by feeding
her a raw food diet and giving her Transfer
Factor to keep her immune system strong. I also have another dog, a
cat and a horse. All are given the best diet I can give them and Transfer
Factor. I do have to give my new dog Rabies shots, however they are followed
up with a homeopathic remedy to lesson any side affects.

Dog went downhill

Recently, my sweet, healthy,

continually. Despite expert medical attention (including transfusions),
we couldn't save him.

I am an Animal Communicator and I'd like to warn others about some
products that are poisoning cats.
1. Feline Pine Litter - Several cases, including
3 of my 7 cats, showed severe allergic reactions from introducing pine
litter into their litterbox. One started urinating outside of the
litterbox, one chewed the fur off the base of her tail and her sides and
one was chewing at her paws. Other communicators have observed similar
behaviors when using this litter with their animals. I contacted
Feline Pine to notify them but they will not get around to it until 2009
when their researchers will take it under advisement.
2. Pine Sol - A dog had a serious reaction to pine
sol on the kitchen floor. He had a seizure and lost hair and suffered
from hot spots for several weeks after the exposure.
3. Tea Tree Oil - A holistic vet prescribed an ear
wash solution containing 1 drop of tea tree oil to control ear-mites.
The lady administered the earwash solution once a month instead of 3 times
a week. It wasn't until 7 months later when it was too late to save
the cat from liver failure that the tea-tree oil was discovered to be the
toxic item.
Too many people trust vets (holistic and mainstream) without realizing
that they are the guardians of their animals and know their animals intimately
over a vet's 15-minute appointment. If I could send any message to
animal lovers it would be to trust your instincts and observations.
If you feel something is not good for your animal or you observe any type
of "reaction" - please stop giving the medication/supplement/herb/etc.
to see if the animal does better. We are "killing our animals with
our good intentions" and too many people tell me they wished they had listened
to their own intution regarding this medication or that vaccination, etc.
I not only communicate with animals (who often don't realize what is
poisoning them) I also do BodyTalk for animals - an alternative healing
technique that allows an animal's body to address the things it wants healed
and in what order. However, BodyTalk is ineffective when a person
keeps re-introducing the offending product to the animal as the animal's
body is trying to heal itself (as in the case of the cat that died of liver
failure). If you'd like to talk to me, I may be reached at 702-567-3404

Bulldog Puppy Badly Hurt by Toxic Parasite (Mange) Dip
Date: 9/10/2006
From: Marti
Drost mldrost@cox.net
I have a French Bulldog Puppy
that at about 5 mos. old developed "red
mange". I have never heard of it before and I took her to my vet for
hair loss around her face and neck. He did a scraping and sure enough,
it was mange. He told me that in Bulldog breeds, it is quite common to
see an immature immune system. This type of mange is caused by a microscopic
parasite that invades the hair follicles and causes the hair loss.
Most other breeds with stronger
immune systems can just fight it off. My vet told me the way to rid my
puppy of this was to use a special dip once a week for four weeks. I said
OK, sell me this dip and I will apply it. He said no way. That it is VERY
toxic and I couldn't handle it without special clothing and gloves. I thought
this was the only way to treat this problem.I agreed to bring my puppy
back the next day and have her first treatment.
When I came back to pick
her up, I was just sick. My puppy's eyes were blood red and she was just
lethargic. I knew right then and there I was not going to bring her back
for anymore treatments. I began to research all that I could about how
to treat this horrible mange, and that is where I came across the information
on Transfer
Factor. I ordered a bottle of the Transfer
Factor Plus and began giving it to her right away. Within about ten
days I saw her hair was growing back. Within three weeks she was beautiful.
I have people stop me and comment about how pretty she is and how nice
and shiny her coat looks.
I am a certified equine body
worker, and I see many horses with various problems that I am sure would
be helped with the Transfer Factor. I have to keep my own horse in a boarding
stable and I want his immune system in top form because we have so many
horses coming and going bringing in who knows what. I am also a saddle
fitter and I give clinics in saddle fitting in my area. I am a firm believer
in
natural horsemanship. I do not keep shoes on
my horse and I have begun trimming his feet myself. I also believe in homeopathic
remedies. I use them on my pets as well as my family members. I truly believe
that people are finally seeing that the way to good health is through as
natural a path as they can find. I cannot totally discount traditional
medicine, but I personally can no longer take whatever they recommend blindly
and I have learned to do my homework to see if there is a more natural
solution to my issue at hand.

Cautions Pet Owners Using Spot-on Flea and Tick Treatments for Pets
Subject: Loosing
beloved "Katie" (cat) from cortisone (steroids)
shot.
Date: 9/26/2005
From: Bruce
Thayse, Suamico Wi andreikraev@yahoo.ca
There are many people out
there who I'm sure have pets or know someone that does. This letter
is to be informative and preventitive so that the same situation doesn't
happen to you as it has to us.
A month ago I had taken "Katie"
(cat) to the vet for a routine examination and they offered a "Special"
on a broad spectrum blood, urine, diabetes etc... analysis. After
2 days I got a call from the vet telling me that Katies blood work came
back excellent!! She was given more than a normal checkup and we
were ecstatic to learn that she had many wonderful years left. The
only problem she did have was an allergy problem which I was told had spread
across the cat population like crazy this year.
The doctor recommended I
give her a shot of cortisone, which is a typical shot given to cats who
have an allergic reaction to their regular immunizations. Three weeks
later after the shot wore off he instructed me to bring her back in to
have a second shot to get her through the season. I did!! She
was doing great and then one week later we noticed that she was drinking
water excessively and she was standing at her bowl in a daze.
I called the vet immediately
and they told me not to worry that the shots would do that and in a couple
of weeks she would be fine. The next day she puked right in front
of me. She seemed to be fine after that until the next morning we
noticed she couldn't stand up and she would lay on her side with her mouth
open and no life in her eyes. We took her in immediately and she
was then diagnosed with DKA diabetes. The worst kind. Two veterinarians
admitted that that the shots that she was given could induce diabetes instantly.
Her calcium was low causing her ears to twitch repeatedly, she developed
pancreatitus and her kidneys were becoming impaired. There was nothing
we could do. The cost to keep her alive would run into the thousands
(6-10k). Her quality of life would be disrupted by periods of complications
and insulin would have to be injected twice a day. It was then we
realized that even though we may be able to stabilize her for a period
of time she would have a long long battle with complications. Complications
we were not prepared for. We didn't want to see her suffer on a daily
basis and watch the disease take her in the end only to have her with us
in limited capacity. At 9:30 that evening we painstakingly decided
to let her go. She gave us 8 great years since we've had her and
we loved her as much as she loved us. It wasn't easy to make the
decision and even harder to accept her death knowing it could have been
prevented by asking one question. What are the risks of those shots?
I urge all of you who have
a family pet to take appropriate measures to ask questions and familiarize
yourself with other treatments. Medicine is not an exact science
and no doctor or vet has all the answers but knowledge combined with common
sense can dramatically offer a clearer course of action. I feel as
though I killed my daughter. She was an extension of this family.
Would you give your cat or dog a drug you wouldn't take yourself?
What are the side effects and alternatives? And if your doctor doesn't
answer or is vague because they want money MOVE ON!!! Your loved
one is at stake.
All those years of unconditional
love mean something and shouldn't be taken lightly. You have a responsibility
to ensure a safe and reasonable treatment plan. When you walk into
a drug store do you notreceive a pamphlet explaining the drugs side effects
and possible complications? YES!!! Why would you settle for less
from your vet? I never received any information ever about the cortisone.
Common sense tells me it's dangerous. But common sense also falls
on the doctors hands.
It's both our faults for
not asking and relaying information. If I would have, Katie would
be with me today. Do what's right and pass this along to everyone
you know who has a pet they consider to be a family member. In 48 hours
Katie went from a vibrant loving playful cat to her grave......We are saddened
beyond
measure and hope that her death wasn't for nothing. Don't make your
animals suffer!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to inform you that
I purchased Sergeants Silver Flea control drops for cats on 2-9-06. Within
a couple of days I noticed my cats fur had come out at the site of application.
I did not think anything of it at the time since she was an indoor/outdoor
cat and she had been fighting with a stray cat recently. On 2-19-06 I awoke
at 2:00am to find my cat had vomited all over the house and was now foaming
from the mouth. By 7:00 am in the morning she was gone. My cat weighed
7 pounds so I had used the product for cats over 5 pounds. I don't understand
how this stuff gets on the market if it is capable of killing our animals.
Ironically I had been using the Hartz flea drops for over 5 years on her
and never had any problems. I just hope by telling you about my experience
with this product that it might make more people aware of this. Trust me
my next cat will get organic flea control. No more pesticides for me.

Deadly
aflatoxins in pet food
The dog food is tainted with
deadly aflatoxins that waste the liver away. The bad food could be present
in a dozen other countries, too, the researchers say. About two-thirds
of dogs that show symptoms from the toxin have died. The dogs seemed to
know their food was deadly.
"Some dogs were stealing
food from the kitchen counter," Center said. "Others just stopped eating
the food and begged for treats. Unfortunately, some owners used gravy and
other mixers to entice their dogs to consume what they thought was safe,
quality dog food."
Only about two dozen deaths
have been firmly linked to the tainted pet food. But Center and her colleagues
know the toll is far higher.
"Every day, we're hearing
reports from veterinarians in the East and Southeast who have treated dogs
that have died from liver damage this past month or so," Center said. "We're
also concerned about the long-term health of dogs that survive as well
as dogs that have eaten the tainted food but show no clinical signs."
Surviving dogs may develop
chronic liver disease or liver cancer, she said.
"Despite our understanding
of this complex toxin, we have no direct antidote," Center said.
Symptoms arise over days
or weeks. Early signs include lethargy, loss of appetite and vomiting.
Later, look for orange-colored urine and jaundice, which is a yellowing
of the eyes and gums. Severely affected dogs produce a blood-tinged vomit
and bloody or blackened stools.

I lost a perfectly
healthy 6 yr old shih tzu after Proheart 6 shot. He started diarrhea
and vomiting within 5 days of the Proheart 6, and over weeks continued
digestive problems which I now understand is a side effect of the shot.
His not being able to regain normal access of his digestive system threw
his immune system haywire and caused him to develop IMHA and die within
days.
Even though he had blood
transfusions and medications he still couldn't pull through. Duker
was with me constantly and I knew this dog extremely well----He never acted
the same after that shot. I know that the Proheart 6 shot led to
the death of my dog. I have reported to Fort Dodge and to the FDA
concerning this drug and they have established a case number on Duker.
I hope the owner of the Collie has done the same.
I too have been spreading
the word to watch out on this shot, and I'm trying to research and do as
much as I can so that another dog does not have to go through what my beloved
Duker had too. If you have any additional info or have heard of other
problems, please let me know.
I just find out 3 days ago
that a friend of mine in another state who also with in for a routine annual
visit for her dog was given the Proheart 6 shot. Within 2 days he
started diarrhea and vomiting and within weeks he died but she gave him
CPR on the way to the vet. His heart stopped 2 more times at the
vet, and they think now that he has heartworms and are giving him arsenic.
Just like Duker her dog was given the test prior to the shot to be sure
no heartworms were present. Both of our dogs tested negative.
There are even some vets
I have heard of that will not give the Proheart 6 shot--I wondered what
they know! In addition, I discovered on line that after mixing
this shot it needs to sit for 30 minutes before injection. I wonder
how many vets do that. By the way how is the other Collie that you
mentioned in the email. I know this is long and I apologize but I'm
just trying to spread the word. Thanks, Myra

Danny's
Death - The Truth About Proheart 6
Danny was a perfectly healthy
five-year-old part Golden Retriever mix who was energetic and happy. He
would spend his days swimming in the creek behind our suburban home, playing
fetch with my son, and lounging about like any other pampered pet. Early
this spring, we decided to switch to a new heartworm preventative called
Proheart 6, which was supposed to be better because one injection would
last all summer. The only problem is that it killed Danny.

Janice Storey, Houston, Texas

My dog, Trouble received
the ProHeart 6 shot on 8/20/02 in conjunction with other vaccinations.
He died on 10/17/02 (58 days) after the shot. He was VERY healthy
prior to the shot being given. He was 11 years old - which by most
means, means old. However, he was very strong, could still jump into
the back of the bed of a truck. He suffered a horrible death and
died in my arms while transporting him to the vet to put him asleep.
His "storey" is better told in an summary I wrote. If interested
in it, I will be happy to e-mail it to you.
After three different vets
and three different diagnosis, he was finally diagnosed as having "lung
cancer". In asking this internist as to how long the cancer had been
in his system, I was told about two months. How coicidental would
it be to determine that the cancer arrived at the same time the shot was
injected? PLEASE, IF YOU VALUE YOUR DOGS HEALTH, DO NOT LISTEN TO
THE VETS THAT THIS DRUG IS SAFE. I WAS TOLD AT LEAST 3 TIMES, IT
WAS SAFE AND NOW MY DOG IS DEAD. He did not deserve to die the way
he did - and I do not deserve to feel the guiltiness I do in electing to
allow the shot to be given. PLEASE LISTEN!

Debby's Horrific Testimonial
Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003
Email: FireWolfRN@aol.com
I want to share our HORRIFIC
experience with the ProHeart 6 injection. Our little dog, an Italian Greyhound,
recently received the Pro Heart 6 injection and almost died. I wish that
I had read and found all the actual data on this drug before we used it.
I am also a registered nurse
with a critical care background and it is that background that helped me
recognize the complications in my little dog and get immediate treatment.
Reddy started vomiting within 48 hours of receiving the injection.
At that time I had only read the information packet given at the vets office
with the Proheart medication. I did remember that in the adverse reactions
section it stated that gastric distress occurs "in less than 1% of the
animals tested." I thought that Reddy might be in that group so I
started him on reglan and backed off feedings. The next day his stomach
sounded like it was at war, the rolling was high pitched and tympanic,
not good for bowel sounds, and by that evening he was vomiting only bright
red blood and weak. In human terms to me, Reddy was having an upper GI
bleed from severe gastritis.
I now know from some data
received concerning the Proheart 6 that the number one severe reaction
is hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. We took him to an emergency animal clinic
who thought perhaps Reddy had ingested something and they did x rays for
a foreign body. I had told them about the shot but they did not think
that the Proheart was a factor in the bleeding. To make this story even
more horrific, Reddy over reacted to the sedation they gave him so that
they could perform the x rays and he quit breathing. The doctor had gone
into the developing room and as my room mate hollered for him to come back
out, Reddy lay limp in my arms.
I have only performed CPR
and emergency measures on humans in ER and ICU, but quickly put those skills
to use and after several rescue breaths Reddy had some mild seizure like
activity and resumed breathing very irregular. The vet worked with him
and gave him an antidote to counter act the sedation.
They gave Reddy an injection
of reglan, an antibiotic injection, and told us to only give him pedialyte
in place of water to drink until we could get to our vet the next morning.
Our vet found him dehydrated and weak, and kept him the whole day placing
him on fluids and treating him. We now have Reddy home and I watch him
like a hawk for any other complications as the information says that it
can happen again and I have read everything I could on this drug ProHeart
6. It is a killer and vets are not being told the whole truth and owners
are not being informed about the facts.
Keep telling anyone and everyone
about ProHeart 6 which is a horrid killer. I have read several pieces that
expound that vets are out to make money and I believe that most vets are
like doctors. They rely on drug representatives to tell them the
truth about medications that the FDA puts out. They are not as well informed
about each and every drug as is needful and do not have time to read all
the information and brochures sent as handouts. We need to inform the vets
as well as the public and everyone else to think twice about this medication
before ever letting their dog get the injection.
Note: AIHA Canine
autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is a disease characterized by increased
destruction of red blood cells (erythrocytes) by the dog's own immune system.
There is evidence that a potential cause maybe the heartworm medication,
Proheart6.
Read the testimonial from a
dog in England who recovered from AIHA after the vet gave up on him.

people have responded to oral MSM generally administered at dosage levels
of 250-270 mg per day.
-
Response to allergy. MSM moderates
diverse allergic responses as to pollen and foods.
-
Antiparasitic action. In vitro
and in vivo tests suggest MSM has an activity against a variety of medically
important parasitic problems. Work has concentrated on parasitic problems
of the intestinal and urogenital tracts. MSM is active against Giardia,
Trichomonads and round worms.
-
Control of constipation. To
date, over 50 subjects presenting chronic constipation have gained prompt
and continuing relief by supplementing the diet with MSM.

Boosting Animal's
Immune System: Animals with a healthy immune system are not threatened
by worm infestations
The
Canine Health website has natural remedies for worms (listed
on the bottom of their left column)
Pat McKay "Heartworms
are not really worms, but parasites transferred to your dog via the bit
of mosquitoes and lives in the hearts of dogs who have a compromised
immune system. So giving poisons, chemicals and drugs only perpetuates
the problem by suppressing the animal’s immune system even more. I believe
the reason we see the high degree of heartworms in domesticated dogs is
because of the drugs that have been used over the years. Coyotes and wolves
deal with it by developing a mild infestation and then becoming immune.
We need to allow our animal’s immune system to mature, to build up a strong,
viable immune system to fight all disease. If you live in a high risk area
(mosquitoe infested), your dog's coat should never be cut, so that it can
serve it's natural function of a protective barrier against mosquitoes.
Let me add to that: Because the drugs are so deadly, they cause the health
of the animal to deteriorate to the point they can’t fight off many other
ailments, including severe liver damage from the poisons and chemicals
in the drugs."

Our
cat, Mr. Fluffy, was a victim of Veterinary Malpractice
We lost Fluffy on Dec. 31,
1997. Since then we have tried to learn as much as we can about Veterinary
Malpractice, to help us to seek justice for Fluffy's tragic loss. We are
hoping that by writing a page that deals with this subject, that we will
be able to help others that will unfortunately have to be in this position
too someday. Here
are a list of links that we have compiled that deal with Veterinary
Malpractice, and Animal Rights.
Mr. Bluestone is suing
his veterinarian for negligence. His attorney specializes in animal cases.
Marc Bluestone says his
dog Shane was given unnecessary medications and radiation that killed her.
"They knew they were destroying her," Bluestone told Paige. "They had her
on 13 different drugs, and the total bill was over $20,000. I don't know
of anyone who's ever heard of a veterinarian in 90 days racking up $20,000
in veterinary bills.
"The worst in vet care is
when we see vets who have ongoing, unnecessary procedures that aren't medically
called for, (which) symptoms don't indicate would be appropriate treatment,
in an effort to rack up the bill to the consumer," attorney Diane Parrish
told Paige.
Veterinarians don't have
to worry much about being sued for malpractice because, in most cases,
pet owners can hope to recover only the cost of replacing the pet. A dog
from the pound is worth about $40.

Dog reacting badly to insulin
shot
From Joan Symonds (email
JoanMSymonds@aol.com)
My 8 year old scotty, Max,
was just diagnosed with diabetes on Thursday. He was in a very bad
state according to the vet - but she stated that diabetes was her specialty
and if we did exactly what she told us to do - she could help him.
She gave him an insulin shot
which knocked the poor animal for a loop. His eyes started oozing and he
went down fast! The vet went on vacation - and we were left
with a very sick animal. We took him to the emergency clinic
but they refused to treat him without seeing the vet records - which we
could not get.
Friday afternoon, I
found your webpage on google and realized that if we could get Max on raw
food and some herbal supplements it would be a beginning. I
was desperately seeking information on what vitamins and herbs to give
Max. I was so stressed out that I completely missed your Transfer
Factor Plus for pets. (Which my son sent me today.)
Max has been very sick since the insulin shot. Two days upon putting him
on the raw food diet (which is liking to my amazement)
- he is starting to come around. He is still very quiet - and sleeping
a lot. And he is walking slowly on his walks - resting frequently
- but he is a bit perkier and I sense that we can get him well -
if we continue the diet and vitamins etc.
I want to add the Transfer
Factor for Pets to that diet - and I want to buy the Transfer
Factor Plus for me! I will be ordering immediately tomorrow!
Cannot thank you enough for
all your time and energy in putting your site together. I am passing it
on to everyone I know.
Cancer of
the thyroid and toxic chemicals
May 2001- testimonial from
Laura
My poodle has recently been
diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid and given a life sentence of 6 months.
After hours and hours of crying and staying up all night just "watching"
her, I got on tons of websites and read tons of articles on processed foods,
chemicals, and exactly what environmental factors could have caused Genie's
cancer. I live in a beautifully maintained townhouse community and
think there is a connection between the lawn fertilizer and her cancer.
I used to bring her to the vet every year for her vaccinations and felt
great after we left...like when you leave the dentist. Little did
I know I was killing her slowly. I will no longer give her or my
cat another vaccine (my cat's name is Lillie). I now am more informed,
but unfortunately for Genie, it's too late. Your article inspired
me to pursue my Association's use of chemicals for the lawn. I am
also now feeding my animals organically based, home made food. Good
bye to Mighty Dog and Friskies. I thought the most expensive brands
were the best. Now I realize I have been feeding fecal matter, roadkill
and euthanized companion animals (domesticated dogs and cats) to my furry
children. I am much wiser and hope that my new found wisdom extends
the life of my Genie just a little longer. Thanks for writing back and
keep going with what feels right in your heart. More

Flea and Tick Products - Dangerous for Pets
To: Hartz Mountain
Corp. and Retailers carrying Hartz brand topical flea and tick products
Despite multitudes of well-documented
cases of Hartz Flea and Tick Products causing injury and death to many
innocent pets, Hartz Mountain Corp. continues to deny any wrongdoing and
insists that its products are safe.
Evidence against the safety
of Hartz Flea and Tick products continues to grow rapidly. TV news channels
have ran numerous reports on the problem and a class action suit has been
filed against Hartz Mountain Corp. by the law firm of Faruqi and Faruqi,
LLP and Squitieri and Fearon, LLP. However, these deadly products are still
being sold in stores across the nation and remain well within the reach
of unsuspecting consumers who are unwittingly putting their beloved pets
into harm's way.
The principal ingredient
in Hartz brand Flea and Tick products for cats is a 40-year-old chemical
pesticide called Phenothrin. Although long since banned for use as a lawn
pesticide, due its toxicity, Phenothrin constitutes over 85% of the total
ingredients in Hartz Advanced Care Plus topical flea and tick drops for
cats.
The Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) is also actively collecting information regarding incidents
with pets that have been affected by Hartz Flea and Tick products. EPA
findings to date criticize Hartz for their testing practices and have suggested
re-evaluation of these products for their safety. The EPA has also highlighted
problems with the way in which Hartz Mountain Corp. has incorrectly categorized
reported incidents of problems with cats such as to obscure the severity
of the problem.
Veterinarians across the
country are already fully aware of the problems caused by these Hartz brand
topical flea and tick medications that are available over the counter.
Interviews with veterinarians in Jacksonville, FL, for example, concluded
that nearly two-thirds of the approximately 30 surveyed have seen problems
related to the Hartz products and see them regularly. Research among veterinarians
in other states produced similar results. read

Aflatoxins
Poisoning
My dog got really sick this
summer, and no one could figure out why! My mom decided to have my food
checked by the Dept. Of Agriculture in our state. The food came back with
a low level of Aflatoxins:; a mold poisoning. Aflatoxins can be found in
people food too! It is something that happens when food is not stored properly,
or when the grains, or other ingredients in the food are contaminated to
begin with. It can take place before the food is made, after the food is
made, how the food is stored in the warehouses, in the stores and even
in your own home. How sick this can make you depends on just how high the
rates are. The rates found in my food were 40ppb(parts per billion) not
enough to be deadly, but enough to make my system very sick. The tolerant
rate is 20ppb. It has been quoted to me by veterinary toxicologists that
levels around 75-100 ppb are the most dangerous. Some dogs have a lower
sensitivity to any form of Aflatoxins, which is what is believed in my
case. Although there is no sure way to completely avoid aflatoxin poisoning
there are some precautions:
1. Never buy a bag that
is torn, wet, or out dated, or without a date. And do not buy a bag that
has been sitting near a window, especially in the summer.
2. When you buy animal food
store the food in a dry, air tight container, in a cool dry place. Do not
buy large bags if you only have 1 animal, especially in the summertime.
3. Aflatoxins, or other
mold toxins can take place in ALL dog foods.

"Katy".... Katy developed
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia ( a disease where the body rejects its
own blood) after her annual vaccinations. This syndrome has been shown
to be associated with annual vaccinations. After 6 weeks of care the total
bill was over $3000. Katy was lucky to survive. Less than 50% of dogs with
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia survive.
"Maria"...
Maria developed a fibrosarcoma from her annual rabies and leukemia vaccinations.
This is a terminal type of cancer. Even with surgery, chemotherapy and
radiation therapy, the average survival time for cats with vaccination
induced fibrosarcomas is less than 3 years. Because aluminum adjuvants
have been incriminated we have avoided aluminum adjuvants for over 12 years.
To do everything in our power to prevent fibrosarcomas, Dr Rogers and his

Declining State of Our Pet's Health

I recently lost my most wonderful
9 1/2 year old rottweiler companion to bone cancer - as she was my first
and received a compilation of traditional vaccines and drugs over the years
which I believe allowed her immune system to crash as she aged. It
is a long story but too late for her to enjoy her kids and grandkids with
more healthy senior years ahead. I cannot help but feel responsible for
the lack of her health even though her family genes were a strong inherent
factor for bone cancer - I feel I should have given her more - I quess
this is the lesson she has left me for her progeny to benefit. Her progeny
are titered instead of vaccinated and fed a healthy diet which I am constantly
re-evaluating and adjusting for proper canine nutrition. May they
reflect their wonderful grand-dam and live long and healthy lives.
It is a shame that we all
have been impressioned from childhood that dog food in a can or in the
form of cereal kibble along with yearly vaccines is the path to good health.
I must LET YOU KNOW that the very reason I purchased my first alternative
animal health book several years ago was because, as a professional groomer,
I was bewildered and concerned for disease conditions of a certain number
of the dogs and cats that I groomed on a regular basis. I was informed
of their medical treatments when they sought veterinary care so I got to
witness first hand their further decline of health and some even death.
Yes some had " temporary"
improvement - but it seems the aged animals just lost. Even some
younger animals just continued along living on drugs with ever errupting
symptoms in a viscious cycle. Surely silently declining in health.
I made it a habit to inquire from these animal owners "what type of dog
food are you feeding" and the constant answer was the usual kibble from
a bag from the market or pet store, never even a premium human grade formulation.
And of course when they took the animal in to see the vet for a health
problem they were due for ALL their vaccines and got a seven course in
one stop visit. It would just drive me crazy, the way traditional
vets practiced. As a groomer I experienced absolutely HORRID examples
of temperament and behavior - and I mean from collies, Labs, Goldens and
Shelties etc. - No Breed was exempt.

Veterinary Malpractice

"Of the tens of thousands of veterinarians practicing in the United States,
many are incompetent, careless or both. Others fail to deliver adequate
care because their singular focus on profits makes them unwilling to pay
for qualified employees, equipment, supplies, etc. I have even known of
one vet who diluted her euthanasia drugs and another who re-used single-use
surgery supplies. Unnecessary deaths and suffering have become commonplace."

Electric
Fences and Electronic collars
A concerned animal lover
left this message in my guestbook
on 11/21/99.
I think this important
issue needs attention.
Electric Fences and electronic
collars that are used to keep dogs from barking and how inhumane they are
to use. It is by various intensities of shocking the animal which at the
low level the discomfort to the animal is claimed to be minimal but some
of these things have ten levels and if you tried it on yourself you would
definetly feel major discomfort. I know people need to train their animals
to keep quiet is necessary at times but to make them wear this at all times
would be like putting them in a jail. I want animal loving people to insist
on finding out if it is Humane before purchasing them as now everybody
i selling them, because I saw this demonstrated on Foz News and was horrified
to watch the poor dog react to the shock treatment he got and see how broken
spirited he was when he had it on all the time as compared to not wearing
it. The fences are the same in that a shock is delivered if the animal
crosses through also said to be mild in its affect by veteranarians. Will
you walk through it first before you put an innocent animal through it
Please? We need public input on this. How much does anybody really know
about these products?

Comments: I am happy see
that your site is attracting more and more of us who feel that our furry
friends are really people in animal's clothing! I want to talk about the
use of heavy, thick collars that people may put on their dogs. Collars
with studs etc. because I found out that such a collar can cause quite
a sad effect on the disks in the neck as to render the animal unable to
hold its head up and tends to cause further deblitation of the spine. I've
seen these type of collars on Danes and Pit Bulls. I know that it is for
a tough/decorative look in most cases but while at my Vet I saw one case
of this and was told of another case-it made me cry. this is too sad and
preventable. I realized I had never heard of this and would never have
thought of this if I hadn't seen it for myself. Please everybody think
before you decorate your dog like that. For the love of all animals everywhere,

Grapes and Raisins are
Toxic to Dogs
The ASPCA-run Animal Poison
Control Center is working hard to get the word out to people that raisins
and grapes are both considered toxic to dogs now. This is a relatively
recent revelation, one that is painfully close to my heart since I personally
had a healthy, young 70 pound male Irish Setter die of complete kidney
failure within 24 hours of eating raisins (he ate a 14 oz. box he snuck
out of my grocery bag).
I just got off the phone
with them, providing them what data I could for their database and they
were very grateful and were wonderful to work with. They asked me to do
two things, which I ask your help with as well:
1) TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS!
Many of us have used grapes as treats for our dogs. This is now known to
be dangerous.
2) Encourage anyone who
is quite sure they've had a death caused by this to contact the center
and provide details. They've even had some owners who contacted them very
shortly after death, allowing the center to get tissue samples for study.
The number to call is the same as the poison hotline - 888-4-AMIHELP (yes
there's an extra digit there but nevermind - this will help you remember
the number). They do charge for immediate crisis poison counseling, but
DO NOT charge peole (of course) who call to provide information about a
case, and they are grateful for the data.

PET HEALTH
ALERT: BREAD DOUGH A NO-NO!
Sent by Pat www.AllieMax.homestead.com
As the holidays descend upon
us, there'll be many cooks in the kitchen--but don't spoil your pet by
giving him bread dough. According to Jill A. Richardson, DVM, of the ASPCA
Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), when bread dough is ingested, an animal's
body heat causes the dough to rise in the stomach. As alcohol is produced
during the rising process, the dough expands. Pets who've eaten bread dough
may experience abdominal pain, bloat, vomiting, disorientation and depression.
"We once had a case in which
a Labrador retriever ate several rolls that the guardian had placed on
the oven to rise. The guardian didn't think much of this, and was just
upset that the dog ate part of the holiday feast," Richardson recalls.
"A few hours later, the guardian noticed that the dog looked very lethargic.
He was resistant to move, uncoordinated and was retching." As the symptoms
increased, the guardian brought him to an emergency clinic, which contacted
the APCC. Unfortunately, the dog's stomach was so severely distended that
the only option at the time was to surgically remove the dough. He was
also treated for alcohol toxicosis, caused by the fermentation of the dough.
The Labrador was kept at the clinic for the weekend and recovered completely.
Although he had ingested quite a bit of dough, an animal needs to eat only
a small amount to cause a problem, because bread dough can rise many times
its size.
Please take care not to let
Fluffy or Fido in the kitchen unsupervised when you're baking this holiday
season--especially if you've got a professional chowhound who's always
on the lookout for food. If you suspect that your pet has eaten dough--or
any potentially toxic substance--call your veterinarian or the APCC's emergency
hotline at 1-888-4-ANI-HELP for round-the-clock telephone assistance. For
more information on poison prevention, visit APCC's website.

Why my faithful German
Shepherd was becoming very ill
by Sevi Kay
Our beloved canine “Mundo”
got pretty ill on fall 1997. My best friend was getting thinner and loosing
her fur more and more everyday. She chewed her body all night long and
by morning I would see all the bloody bites and scratch marks on her bare
skin and her ears were full of deep bloody nail marks.
She had the veterinarian
pretty confused and since he did not know what the cause was he prescribed
cortisone injections, antibiotics, and steroids and heavy tranquilizers.
And how could I forget the grooming products he sold to me! The shampoo
and the conditioner shared the following hazardous ingredients: Synthetic
Fragrance, SLS, SLES, mineral oil (petroleum base), *Coal tar (only in
the shampoo), dea, artificial colors, ethyl alcohol and cortisone (only
in the conditioner).
After eliminating many elements,
we found the culprit that caused her 3-month ordeal. It was the powder
carpet deodorizer! Even though we vacuumed well, the harmful particles
never got picked up by the vacuum and caused our beloved canine a terrible
allergic reaction.
I started doing research
and found out that most of the time the cause of these problems were due
to shampoos, conditioners, other grooming supplies and deodorizers we were
using on our canines. I also found a hazardous ingredient list used in
all of the grooming supplies for pets not to mention most of the human
products. To my shock her shampoo, conditioner and ear solution that were
suppose to cure her made her sicker because of the ingredients such as
SLS, SLES, DEA, petroleum products, artificial colors and synthetic perfumes
in it. The antibiotics caused her to have ear infection and since
they disrupt the digestive system, caused her to have indigestion and severe
diarrhea. Tranquilizers made her vomit and since she was still of balance
made her fall while trying to scratch. The shampoo and the conditioner
made her skin red and off color rashes appeared. We were devastated! I
thought this was the perfect time to say “NO” and decided to take care
of my best friend myself.
I stop using all the medication
right away and after research created our “Everyday Shampoo” a soothing
shampoo and soap with Lavender EO (EO = essential oil) , Myrrh EO, Patchouli
EO, Niaouli EO, Sandalwood EO, Calendula and Chamomile for her. I also
created and used infused oils such as “Kiss It Away” and “Pain Away” and
massaged her sore body paying special care and attention to her scars.
The “Calming Oil” containing Neroli Essential Oil (used mostly at bed time
by rubbing it on her belly) eased her anxiety and upset nerves and as she
calmed down, she finally was able to fall a sleep and stay a sleep most
of the night. I also used our “Everyday K9 Mist” that contain Lavender
Hydrosol, St. John's Wort Hydrosol, Sandalwood EO, Patchouli EO and E Vitamin
Oil, 2 to 3 times a day to keep her coat conditioned. We also changed her
diet and added fresh herbs, vegetables and raw foods as well as vitamin
C, E, Omega 3 oils and B complex. The tinctures and herbal teas we make
accompanied her food on every meal and still do.
After 2 weeks of our herbal/aromatic
treatments, our 73-pound dog started to gain weight, stopped chewing on
her body and her gorgeous black and red fur started grew back. Everyone
was amazed that herbs and aromatherapy could be used this way. Most people
think of aromatherapy for scenting their homes and herbs for their kitchen.
Also most people consider products that have potentially dangerous ingredients
such as synthetic perfumes and synthetic chemicals as true aromatherapy.
I know I used to be one of those people! I was consumed by a heavy workload
and the high paced city life and just did not have the time to read and
do research on the products we all used in our home. I was angry with myself
for believing in the hype and surprised how little control I had over the
products used by my family. I was awakened by my best friends trauma and
realized I was contributing in poisoning her as well as our whole family.
With this revelation I walked
into the veterinarian’s office and slammed all the unused medication on
his desk and said, “You have prescribed the worst things for my dog and
I must say that you can keep all this junk!” Well, he was not too pleased
with my dramatic attitude and after finding out about my herbal and aromatherapy
concoctions, succeeded to add that “my witchcraft” had worked this time,
so I should feel lucky for now. I told him as soon as he refunded me the
$180.00 for the coal tar shampoo, a synthetic conditioner, steroids, antibiotics
and the tranquilizers I brought back; I would gladly get on my broom and
fly away!
So that was the beginning!
I received my International Aromatherapy Certificate in 1998 and currently
studying animal behavior and training with canine specialist and Schutzhund
trainer Doreen Reinhart. Our Mundo now stands tall and proud wagging her
long and full tail around while a mixture of sandalwood, rose geranium
and lavender scents fills the air. She now weighs 90 pounds of pure, unconditional
love!
We know what stories are
made of; they are made of dreams! Well now you know a bit of ours. Sevi
