A study published in the Journal of the
American Medical Association found that 20% of all new drugs are found
to have serious or life threatening adverse effects unknown or undisclosed
at the time of drug approval. Researchers at Harvard Medical School and
Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy organization, performed the study.
Within seven years after a drug is first introduced onto the U.S. market,
half of all serious adverse effects are detected, most commonly damaging

modified organisms) are labeled, as they are in Europe, consumers will
boycott them. In a similar vein, the FDA has recently proposed new laws
that will allow manufacturers to sell controversial and likely hazardous
irradiated and cloned foods without labeling them, or in the case of irradiated
foods, allowing companies to mislabel nuked foods as "pasteurized." Consumers
are justifiably wary of foods bombarded with nuclear waste or powerful
x-rays or gamma rays, since irradiation destroys essential vitamins and
nutrients, creates unique radiolytic chemical compounds never before consumed
by humans, and generates carcinogenic by-products such as formaldehyde
and benzene. Consumers are also skittish about consuming meat, milk, or
eggs from mutant animals that have been genetically engineered
or cloned.

Blocking
Country of Origin Labels for Food - Concerns over long distance food
transportation and global warming, compounded by recent food poisoning
scandals linked to contaminated pet, poultry, and pig food ingredients
from China, have taken away many Americans’ appetites for cheap imported
foods. Shocked that the FDA is inspecting less than
1% of all imported food shipments, health-minded consumers are demanding
that Congress implement mandatory Country of Origin Labels (COOL) on food.
Facing polls showing that 80% of Americans want to know where their food
is coming from, Congress incorporated COOL into the 2002 Farm Bill, supposedly
to go into effect in September 2004. Unfortunately, corporate agribusiness,
Wal-Mart, and the supermarket chains bribed an ethically impaired Congress
with millions in campaign contributions to block implementation of COOL
labels. As a result, Americans are buying billions of dollars of imported,

Allowing
Filth and Chemical Poisons In Industrial Food - Whether we’re talking
about deadly e-coli in hamburgers or spinach, imported

food suffers severe molecular damage. When eaten, it causes abnormal changes

According to Dr. Cristina Garcia-Viguera, co-author of the study, microwaved
broccoli loses 97 percent, 74 percent, and 87 percent of the three major
cancer-protecting antioxidant compounds (flavonoids, sinapics and caffeoyl-quinic
derivatives). By comparison, steamed broccoli loses 11 percent, 0 percent
and 8 percent of the very same antioxidants. In a 1992 article in the journal
Pediatrics, a team of researchers from Stanford University reported that
re-heating human breast milk in a microwave oven – even at a low setting
– can destroy some of its important disease-fighting capabilities. Specifically,
it lost lysozyme, which protects against bacterial infection. The fact
that adverse changes were found at very low temperatures suggested to the
researchers that “microwaving itself may in fact cause some injury to the
milk above and beyond the heating”. Vitamin B-12 is another nutrient
that can be destroyed by microwaving. Japanese research reported in Science
News in 1998 found that as little as six minutes of microwave cooking destroyed
half of the vitamin B-12 in dairy foods and meat, a much higher rate of
destruction than other cooking techniques. Microwaving baby formula is
also a problem, according to Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii in the Lancet medical
journal in 1989. She wrote that microwaving baby formula converts certain
trans-amino acids into synthetic substances like trans-fatty acids. Further,
one of the amino acids, L-proline, converts to a substance known to be
poisonous to the nervous system and to the kidneys. Learn

Dr. Hans Ulrich Hertel, who is now retired, worked as a food scientist
for many years with one of the major Swiss food companies that do business
on a global scale. A few years ago, he was fired from his job for questioning
certain processing procedures that denatured the food. In 1991, he
and a Lausanne University professor published a research paper indicating
that food cooked in microwave ovens could pose a greater risk to health
than food cooked by conventional means. An article also appeared in issue
19 of the Journal Franz Weber in which it was stated that the consumption
of food cooked in microwave ovens had cancerous effects on the blood. The
research paper itself followed the article. On the cover of the magazine
there was a picture of the Grim Reaper holding a microwave oven in one
of his hands. Dr. Hertel was the first scientist to conceive and carry
out a quality clinical study on the effects microwaved nutrients have on
the blood and physiology of the human body. His small but well controlled
study showed the degenerative force produced in microwave ovens and the
food processed in them. The scientific conclusion showed that microwave
cooking changed the nutrients in the food; and, changes took place in the
participants' blood that could cause deterioration in the human system.

bulb? About US$4.28 for the bulb and labour -- unless you break the bulb.
Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at
a cost of about US$2,004.28, which doesn't include the costs of frayed
nerves and risks to health. Sound crazy? Perhaps no more than the stampede
to ban the incandescent light bulb in favour of compact fluorescent light
bulbs (CFLs). According to an April 12 article in The Ellsworth American,
Bridges had the misfortune of breaking a CFL during installation in her
daughter's bedroom: It dropped and shattered on the carpeted floor. Aware
that CFLs contain potentially hazardous substances, Bridges called her
local Home Depot for advice. The store told her that the CFL contained
mercury and that she should call the Poison Control hotline, which in turn
directed her to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. more
Triclosan, widely used as an antibacterial ingredient in household hand
sterilization products, breaks down rapidly when exposed to chlorinated
water and produces toxic chemicals including chloroform, according to a
study published on the Environmental Science & Technology research
website, suggesting that many antibacterial products may not only
be ineffective, but harmful.
The period once euphemistically called the Age of the Miracle Drug is
now dead. And the indiscriminate use of antibiotics is leading us to one
of the most frightening eras in recent memory. That is, the return of infectious
diseases for which there is no effective treatment. Two decades following
the introduction of antibiotics, the medical community began to see a disturbing
trend. Bacterial infections that were once treatable no longer responded

Drink Consumption Warning Downing an “energy drink” may boost blood pressure as well as energy,
researchers said in a small study presented at the American Heart Association’s
Scientific Sessions. In the study, conducted by Wayne State University
researchers, blood pressure and heart rate levels increased in healthy
adults who drank two cans a day of a popular energy drink. Within four
hours of energy drink consumption, maximum systolic blood pressure (the
top number that represents pressure while the heart contracts to pump blood
to the body) increased by 7.9 percent on day one and 9.6 percent on day
seven; diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number that represents the
pressure when the heart relaxes between beats) increased by 7 percent and
7.8 percent, respectively, within two hours of energy drink consumption.
Heart rate increased by 7.8 percent on day one and 11 percent on day seven.
Over the duration of the study, heart rates increased five to seven beats
per minute and systolic blood pressure increased 10 millimeters of mercury
(mmHg) after energy drink consumption, the researchers reported. No significant
ECG changes were observed.

from the government an internal study linking a toxic chemical in Teflon
to birth defects in some children, an advocacy group charged. Residents

DuPont. The Teflon chemical, C8, is part of a broader family called perfluorochemicals.
Tests have shown that C8 and similar chemicals can cause liver damage and

over 1970 micrograms of mercury per gram of liver. That is nearly 5000

grams of liver would exceed the weekly mercury intake considered safe by
